Billy Magnussen (Road House) is getting pulled back into the family business today in Collider’s exclusive first look at the new trailer and poster for Violent Ends. The latest film to hail from director and scribe John-Michael Powell (The Send-Off) is slated for a cinematic arrival courtesy of the Independent Film Company (IFC) on Friday, October 31. While it may not be the type of movie that comes to mind when you think about the Halloween season, the storyline is packed with enough family drama to make your skin crawl and so much action that you’ll be on the edge of your seats.Featuring an ensemble that includes James Badge Dale (The Departed), Kate Burton (Ransom Canyon), Ray McKinnon (Knox Goes Away), Nick Stahl (The Man Without a Face) and Alexandra Shipp (Anyone But You), the trailer for Violent Ends picks up following the jailhouse release of Lucas Frost’s (Magnussen) cousin, Sid (Dale). After years of trying to keep his nose clean and away from the family business, Lucas worries that his cousin’s recent re-entry might derail everything he’s worked for — and he’s completely right. When his fiancée, Emma (Shipp), is brutally murdered by a masked assailant, all signs point back towards Sid as her killer. Remaining hesitant about getting his hands dirty, all bets are off for Lucas as he seeks vengeance for the woman that was taken from him.

Further breaking down the plot of the film, Powell exclusively told Collider:

"Violent Ends was always meant to be a love letter to the throwback crime thrillers I grew up on—films unafraid to push flawed characters to the precipice of moral degradation. I also deeply wanted to make a film set in my home state of Arkansas, a setting rarely seen in cinema, and show the world I saw growing up: a land of immense beauty cloaked in traditions and histories replete with cycles of violence.

In many ways, Violent Ends is a modern cousin of The Hatfields & The McCoys—if the Hatfields turned on themselves. At a time when the world is more complex than ever and families are, unfortunately, more fractured than ever, I hope the film gives audiences not just a taut crime thriller, but also a chance to look inward at our ancestral, cyclical relationship with violence."

In addition to Violent Ends, IFC is on quite the roll right now, unveiling a strong slate that promises to have something for everyone. Along with the Magnussen-led revenge thriller, audiences can soon follow the story of one incredibly good dog in the supernatural horror film, Good Boy, and sink their teeth into the glamorous fallout of the zombie apocalypse in Queens of the Dead. Beyond the release of Violent Ends, the studio is set to release Julia Jackman's historical fantasy flick, 100 Nights of Hero, Charlie Polinger's psychological drama, The Plague, and Corin Hardy's supernatural teen horror film, Whistle.

What Else Has Billy Magnussen Been Up To?

With credits that carry over from stage to screen and across a multitude of genres, Magnussen’s appearance in Violent Ends is just one of his recent projects. The actor will soon appear in the Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell-led romantic fantasy film, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, while, earlier this year, he joined the live-action cast of Disney’s Lilo & Stitch. Crossing back over into television, the actor appeared on the small screen recently in a leading role on the gone-too-soon HBO series, The Franchise, and jumped into network television with a guest appearance in CBS’ Elsbeth.

Praising the performance of his two leading men, Powell told us:

"If you think you know Billy Magnussen, wait until you see his transformation in this film. It will absolutely change the way you see him as an actor. And as exceptional as he is, James Badge Dale—playing Billy’s nemesis—is absolutely terrifying. Top to bottom, this ensemble cast is unbelievably deep, with talent at the top of their game."
